Clifford Fans!

Hi Class!

This week we met a BIG red dog named Clifford. Even though we went on many adventures with Clifford this week there are many more waiting for us! You can hang out with Clifford at home! If you want to play games with Clifford click here. If you want to read and create your own clifford stories click here. If you want to watch videos of Cliffords exciting adventures click here. Don't forget to surf the web safely with a parent and not alone!

Have fun but don't let Clifford get into too much trouble!

Weather Watchout!

Hi Weather Reporters,

Science

Now that we have explored the wonderful world of weather we can keep track of past weather as well as weather to come! The Weather Network is a website that tell us the past, current and future weather. Not only can you discover the weather in St.Catharines but also many more places in North America. Use the search bar to find many types of weather. Find simularities and differences between the weather in the different areas. Also, be on the lookout for weather photos for a great mental image of the city's weather.

Parents,

Take some time to explore the wonderful changes in weather around North America using The Weather Network website. This website will help your son/daughter to explore the variety of weather patterns found around North America. This activity touches upon the expectation for students to "describe and compare the four seasons" (The Ontario Curriculum: Science and Technology, pg. 55). A great way to help your child find simularities and differences in weather is to start a weather chart and record the weather for the same four cities for one week.

Explorers of St.Catharines

Hello Explorers!

Social Studies

Everyone did a great job this week as we packed our backpacks and explored our city. Although we left our shoes at the door we used Google Earth to fly around and peek into every corner of St.Catharines. Continue your journey at home using Google Earth but don't forget to ask for your parents help before downloading anything!

Parents,

Its been a busy week in our class as we explored the local community. The students took an indepth look at the city of St.Catharines using the tool Google Earth. This is a great tool to introduce your children to maps. This activity covers the grade one expectation to "read maps of familiar areas in their local community" (The Ontario Curriculum: Social Studies, pg.35). Parents have some fun with your son/daughter, download google earth and let the students take you on a magic carpet ride around the city.

Questions??

Hi Grade 1's!

Do you ever have a question that you can't answer? Have you ever wondered where snow comes from? What about lightening? These are some great questions and I'm sure that you have even more great questions to ask. There is a search engine called Google where you can search any question you may have, its a great tool, you should use it. But don't forget to surf the internet safely with your parents, not alone. Click on Google and explore the unkown!
